Obituary for Ethel M. Betteridge (Morehead)

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ethel M. Betteridge, 62, who had spent her lifetime in the East Liverpool area, passed away at 12:47 Sunday morning, March 17, 2013, at Heritage Valley in Beaver, PA following a brief illness.

She was born in the city on June 25, 1950, a daughter of the late Ed and Gladys Cain Morehead. A 1969 graduate of East Liverpool High School, she married Ray F. Betteridge on September 20, 1969, and they made their home in the LaCroft section of town. He survives her at home.

Ethel was a loyal employee in the housekeeping department of East Liverpool City Hospital, and in April of this year, she would have completed 30 years of service.

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed boating, and belonged to the Ohio Valley Boat Club. She appreciated the outdoors, especially when working in her garden, and she also loved providing bird houses and feeders for the birds that frequented her yard. But anyone who knew her would tell you how much she most loved spending time with her family, taking annual trips to Myrtle Beach, and having her grandchildren nearby.

In addition to her husband, Ethel leaves behind her children and their families: sons Ray E. Betteridge and his wife, Larissa, of East Liverpool; Mark A. Betteridge and his wife, Michelle, also of East Liverpool; and daughter Angela Mason and her husband, Scott, of Salem. There are seven grandchildren: Mariah Betteridge, Zachary Madison, Stefan Yoho, Allyson Rae Betteridge, Madalyn Dawn Betteridge, Tyler Mason and Aubrey Yoho.

Additional survivors include her sisters, Barbara Hunt and Terry Mayfield, both of East Liverpool, and Janet Sue Volino, of Wellsville. Four brothers also survive: Gary Morehead of Lake Milton, OH; Ed Morehead and his wife, Evelyn, of East Liverpool; James Morehead and his wife, Kathy, also of East Liverpool; and Kenny Morehead of Lisbon. Ethel was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Halfhill.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. William Betteridge of Riverside Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
