Obituary for Richard Louis Cornell

Richard L. Cornell, of John Street, passed away suddenly Friday evening, March 21, 2014. He was 60.

Born in East Liverpool, October 11, 1953, he was a son of the late Allen E. Cornell and Ruth Ellen Butcher Henry and his step-father and best friend Earl J. “Pap” Henry. A resident of this area all his life, he worked as a carpenter, laborer and potter at one time.

He also was a faithful member of the Armor of God Worship Center in Calcutta. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Rich could often be found at his favorite gathering place, the L&B Donut Shop. Above all things in life, Rich loved his family and was devoted to them.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle L. Thornberry Cornell. The couple married October 10, 1989.

He will also be remembered by his four children: Richard W. Cornell, and his wife Jennifer, of East Liverpool, David E. Cornell, and his wife Cassie, of East Liverpool, Aaron M. Thornberry of East Liverpool and Grace D. Cornell of Austintown. There are two grandchildren, Jake Cornell and Olivia Cornell.

He will also be remembered by his brother, Jim Allen Cornell, and his wife Barbara, of Calcutta, as well as three sisters, Linda Kotch, and her husband Jim, of Orlando, Florida, Helen Conley, and her husband Keith, of East Liverpool, and Barbara Thompson of East Liverpool. There are two step-brothers, Robert Henry and Keith Henry of Paden City, West Virginia along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts and uncles.

In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by a step-sister Alice Faye McFadden and a step-brother Ronnie Henry.

Friends may visit Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Bob Hoover of the church will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of the Armor of God Worship Center, in care of Pastor Bob Hoover, 1602 Cameron Hollow Road, New Cumberland, WV 26047.
