Bessie Madeline Fisher, of Burford Street, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Beaver following a lengthy illness. She was 87.

Born in East Liverpool, December 29, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Emerson and Mary Josephine Williams Coleman. A resident of this area all her life, she worked at Pioneer Pottery at one time and was Methodist by faith.

Bessie met her husband, the late John George Fisher, while working at Homer Laughlin China and married November 6, 1948. Through the years they enjoyed travel, taking their children to see musicals at Kenley Players, dining at the Brown Derby afterward, or baseball games at Forbes Field, never caring much for sports but she enjoyed the company. They would later take the grandchildren to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Basketball Hall of Fame, Gettysburg, and elsewhere. Later, after John retired from the Postal Service, they took five Caribbean Cruises together.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, flowers, babysitting cooking, baking, and watching “Gone With the Wind” whenever she could. Never one to pass up a good deal, she enjoyed shopping and would often boast to her husband about all the good deals. She was always compassionate, diplomatic, forthright and at times headstrong but not without reason. Above all things in life, she loved her husband, her children and was proud to see her grandchildren grow from infancy to adulthood.

Bessie and John were married 56 years when he passed away in 2004.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Louise Narcavish, and her husband Joe, of East Liverpool, and a son, John Emerson Fisher, of East Liverpool, as well as four grandchildren: Richard Dale Roach, and his wife Kathy, Ronald Keith Roach, and his wife Anita, Joey Suzanne Buxton, and Amy Jo Smith, and her husband Ryan. There are also 15 great- grandchildren surviving: Caitlin, Marina, Killian, Dedra, David, Leigha, Alyse, Brianna, Wade, Jax, Josef, Nathan, Carys Mary Bess, Natalia, and Juliana.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Carolyn Mae Coleman, Elsie Rose Davidson, and Helen Eileen Smith, two brothers, George Walter Coleman and Robert Emerson Coleman, and a grandson, Caleb Santamaria.

Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Norman Eckert will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Riverview Cemetery.
