Obituary for Hazel Mae Foster (Hammond)

Hazel M. Hammond Foster, 86, of White House Lane, Boardman, and formerly of Calcutta, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014. Hazel, who had been ill just a short time, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.

Born November 20, 1927, in Ford City, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Ray and Margaret Meixelberger Hammond, she was a lifetime area resident.

Hazel was a graduate of Wellsville High School, had worked as a decorator for Sterling China as a young woman, and after her marriage on February 12, 1950 to Lawrence V. “Dink” Foster, she became a dedicated homemaker and mother.

Lawrence preceded her in death on March 27, 2011.

Surviving are two daughters, Laurie A. Siers, and her fiancé Stephen Branch, of Boardman, and Jody L. Reuter, and her husband, Steven of Calcutta. A sister, Elaine Jarvis, of Highlandtown, survives as well.

There are four grandchildren: David J. Siers and his fiancée, Mary Hall; Craig R. Siers and his companion, Amanda Wood; Jenna M. Smith and her companion Mearl Carman; and Andrew S. Reuter and his companion Katelyn Moore. Six great-grandchildren also survive: Zoe Siers, Jadon Siers, Hannah Siers, Haley Siers, Alleigh Smith, and Payton Smith.

Hazel was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn King, and by a brother, Howard Hammond.

Private family services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home, with Pastor Norm Eckert of Beechwood Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial is to be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
