Obituary for Ila M. Shingler (Kuhn)

Ila M. Kuhn Shingler, of Imperial Dr., passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a brief illness. She was 89.

Born in East Liverpool, December 29, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Mary Miller Kuhn. Ila was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

A graduate of East Liverpool High School in 1942, she then graduated from the East Liverpool City Hospital School of Nursing. Ila later received both a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate Degree in Nursing.

She worked as a registered nurse at East Liverpool City Hospital and later became an instructor at their nursing school. Ila also taught second grade at the LaCroft Elementary School, and then taught Diversified Health Careers in the vocational program of East Liverpool High School.

She is survived by her niece, Carla Chamberlain, and her husband Calvin, of East Liverpool, and a nephew, Keith Lovett, and his wife Glenda, of Jacksonville, Florida. There are also several great-nieces and great-nephews as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Shingler, the former owner of the Dixie Diner, on December 4, 1968, her sister Margaret Lovett, on August 10, 1995, and a niece, Amy Lovett.

Rev. Dr. Stephen Cramer of the church will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
