Obituary for Wilma Jacqueline McVay (Schneibel)

Wilma Jacqueline “Jackie” McVay, 84, of Waterloo Street passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania at 2:31 p.m. following a lengthy illness.

Born September 3, 1929 in East Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Zedar Schneibel. Her husband, Carl McVay, whom she married on April 23, 1948, passed away on October 7, 1997. She was also preceded by a son, East Liverpool Police Chief, Michael W. McVay, on November 26, 2011, and a daughter in law, Mary C. McVay on January 30, 2010.

A lifetime area resident, she was employed at the O.S. Hill Company as a secretary for many years and was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church. Jackie, a 1947 graduate, was a member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, and a faithful attendee of the Olde Guard Luncheon.

Jackie is survived by a son, Donald P. McVay, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, her daughter in law, Connie McVay of East Liverpool, three grandchildren, Lauren Higgins, and her husband Larry of Columbiana, Steven McVay, and his wife Amanda of Kearneysville, WV, and Brian McVay of Huntsville, AL. There are also five great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Sean, Declan and Daniel McVay, and Reed Higgins.

Friends may visit Thursday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m. Rev. Eric Edwards of the church will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, following the burial, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
