Obituary for Leonard Iven Behl

Leonard I. Behl passed away at his home on St. Clair Avenue, East Liverpool, surrounded by loving family at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014. He was 83.

Leonard had moved to this area in 2010 to be nearer to his daughter, Lucy Harris, and her family, with whom he resided.

Born on January 27, 1931 in Louisburg, MO, he was a son of the late Paul and Dorothy Allison Behl.

Following high school, Leonard served with the United States Marine Corps in Korea during the Korean War.

For over 37 years, he had been a maintenance mechanic for the airlines, retiring from TWA. This career gave him the opportunity to travel the world, including several continents. An inventor by nature, Leonard was very interested in alternative energy sources, and especially enjoyed modifying tools and toys.

He had attended First United Methodist Church in East Liverpool, and more recently became a member of Northside Community Church.

In addition to his daughter, Lucy, and her husband, Bob, he is survived by his daughters Anita Kronk and Linda Brenneman, both of Kansas City, MO, as well as a son, James I. “Jim” Behl and his wife, Vicki, of Urbana, MO. Another daughter, Paula Sue Walters, passed away in 2010.

There are 28 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Leonard was preceded in death in 1987 by his wife, Willa Dean “Aunt Dean” Hackler Behl, whom he married on November 29, 1952. Also preceding him was a grandchild, two sisters, and two brothers.

Services will be held at the Northside Community Church at 11:00 a.m. Monday, with family friend Robert Weber of Northside Church officiating. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present two hours prior to the service time. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
