Obituary for Todd A. Aughinbaugh

Longtime city educator Todd A. Aughinbaugh passed away suddenly at his home on Maple Drive in East Liverpool on Wednesday afternoon, October 1, 2014. “Mr. A”, as he was affectionately known by hundreds of area students whom he had mentored for the past 27 years, was 50.

He was born in East Liverpool on October 31, 1963, a son of the late W. Clayton and Mary “Kay” Thornburg Aughinbaugh. A 1982 graduate of Beaver Local High School, he went on to receive both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees at Kent State University.

Todd began his fulltime teaching career with the East Liverpool City Schools in 1997, where he patiently and compassionately taught Social Studies and Math at Westgate Middle School and was currently the sixth grade class advisor. He was also serving as the Treasurer of the ELEA, was an ELEA bargaining committee team member, and was also a part of the LPDC committee. Considered by his co-workers as one of Westgate’s “go-to guys”, he was the school building representative for Westgate, and had also been involved in Destination Imagination at one time.
For many years, Todd was a spirited instructor at Camp Fitch for the annual fifth grade trip, and would quietly contribute money of his own so that every student had a chance to go.

Todd provided more than instruction, but was a listening ear to many students who called upon him for advice or support. He cared about each and every one of them; their concerns always came before his own.

Surviving him are two brothers, Ronald C. Aughinbaugh and his wife, Joni, of Calcutta, and Gary L. Aughinbaugh and his wife, Cyndi, of Midlothian, TX. Todd was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey W. Aughinbaugh.

Todd also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Kelly Aughinbaugh, Kevin Aughinbaugh, Kristofer Aughinbaugh, Krickett Aughinbaugh and Adam Hickman, along with great nieces and nephews, Kira and Kyle Jarvis, Katie Aughinbaugh, Clayton Want, Karsin Aughinbaugh, Kadin Aughinbaugh and Kristofer Aughinbaugh. In addition, Todd will be missed by his many caring friends whom he considered family.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home Monday at 11:00 a.m. with his friend and co-worker, Pastor John Smith, officiating. Todd will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park, after which time friends and family will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
