Obituary for Curtis R. Mesler Sr.

East Liverpool resident Curtis R. Mesler, Sr., 81, passed away at the Calcutta Health Care Center, at 12:20 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014.

Born on May 23, 1933 in Toronto, Ohio, he was a son of the late Henry and Garnet Mesler.

A Methodist by faith, he had spent his lifetime in the area and had worked as a construction laborer out of the Laborers Union, Local # 809, in Steubenville.

Curt had served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the destroyer USS Putnam.

His wife, Betty Mesler, whom he married on May 31, 1958, passed away on September 19, 2012.

Also surviving are two daughters and two sons: Garnet Johnson, and her husband Troy, of East Liverpool; Trudy Mesler, and her fiance John Higgins, of Wellsville; Curtis R. Mesler, Jr., of Warroad, Minnesota; and Randy Mesler of East Liverpool.

Nine grandchildren are left to cherish their grandfather’s memory: Brandon Vorkapich; Tana Reynolds, and her husband Nate; Brittany, Paige, Liam Mesler, and their mother Erin Mesler; Becky Reyes and her husband Mike, Christopher, Cailee Mesler, and their mother Tricia Mesler; Briana Johnson and Dylan Van Dyne, as well as two great-grandchildren, Jude and Annabella Reyes.

Curt is also survived by a sister, Carol Gerkins, and her husband Jess, of Pittsburgh, PA, and his best friend and brother-in-law, Richard Wymer, of East Liverpool. He is also preceded by two sisters and three brothers.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. as well as on Monday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with Evangelist Will Montgomery of the St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ officiating. Burial will take place at Toronto Union Cemetery.
