Obituary for James K."Jim" Brown

James K. “Jim” Brown, 78, passed away early Friday morning, October 24, 2014, at his home on County Highway 55, in Hammondsville, OH, surrounded by his family who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness.

Born on August 10, 1936, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Bert and Mina McCormick Brown. He and his family made their way to this area when he was a young boy, and he was a 1955 graduate of Irondale High School.

For over 41 years, he worked as a pipe fitter at TIMET in Toronto, retiring in 1998. Known as a tireless worker, he was happiest when he was busy helping someone else. Following retirement, he and his wife, Judy, travelled frequently around the country on various bus trips. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge #348 F&AM in Salineville for many years.

He loved hunting and gardening, and enjoyed being outdoors – especially on his beloved family farm, where he had raised his five children. Known by “Pap” to his ten grandchildren, Jim took great joy in spending time with them, along with any other young people he could good-naturedly “tease”. Their home was a place of countless happy times, which the family will cherish forever.

Surviving him at home is his wife, Judy Andrews Brown, whom he married on April 26, 1958.

Jim leaves behind his children: Debbie Gauding and her husband, Scott, of Salem; Lori Haught and her husband, Ross, of Toronto; James K. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Wellsville; and Todd Brown and his wife, Danelle, of Stratton. Ten grandchildren also survive: Michael, Scott, Brittany, Morgan and Madison Brown; Kenny and Emily Gauding; and Jacob, Jason and Jonah Haught, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Andrew Brown, who passed away in 1991.

Also surviving are three sisters: Barbara Mays, Joan Copps, and Rose Stella, along with a brother, Jack Brown and his wife, Doris.

Two sisters, Verna Wolfe and Jewell Pickens, along with a brother, William A. Brown, Sr., also preceded him in death.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 3 to 7 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Susan Clegg of Empire United Methodist Church officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at Brush Creek Senior Center in Monroeville, OH.
