Obituary for Paul R. Harvey

Paul R. Harvey, a former resident of Laurie Road in Glenmoor, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday afternoon, December 16, 2014 while a patient at Kindred Hospital in Beaver, PA. He was 85.

A son of the late Roy H. “Red” and Elsie Allison Harvey, he was born in the family home in Lawrenceville, WV on June 27, 1929, and had come to this area in the second grade. A 1947 graduate of East Liverpool High School, it was there he met his wife, the former Betty J. Richmond, whom he married on December 21, 1948. From that time on, one was rarely seen without the other.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving from 1947 to 1950 with the U.S. Marine Corps. While serving with the Reserves from 1950-52, he was stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA and later in Norfolk, VA. He returned to this area and went to work at Crucible Steel, retiring in 1982 after 33 years.

In addition to their involvement in the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, Paul and Betty were both very active in the Elks Lodge #258. Paul had served the Elks as Past Exalted Ruler, Past District Deputy, Past Grand Exalted Ruler and was a longtime trustee.

Betty survives him at home. Paul also leaves behind two daughters and a son: Paulette Gillette and her husband, Tom; Ellen Galeoti and her husband, Nick; and Michael S. Harvey and his wife, Susan, all of East Liverpool. A son, Roy F. Harvey, passed away on July 9, 1977.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Brian Miller and his wife, Rose; Danielle Miller; Nichole Detchon and her husband, Matt; Nicholas Galeoti III and his wife, Marisa; Jessica Petrigac and her husband, Bill; Steven Harvey, Megan Harvey. There are ten great-granchildren: Garrett Miller, Logan Miller, Sydney Detchon, Parker Detchon, Addisyn Galeoti, Aynsley Galeoti, Maleah Galeoti, Mia Petrigac, Quinn Petrigac, and Stacey Demapan. A brother Don Harvey also survives.

In addition to his parents and son, Paul was preceded by a sister Lois Ann Guy and a brother Richard Harvey.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The Elks Lodge will conduct an Elks service at 7 p.m. Friday. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Church officiating.

Paul will be buried at Riverview Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. The burial will be followed by a luncheon for family and friends at the Dawson Family Center.
