Obituary for Delma E. Sims (Hoyt)

Delma E. “Peggy” Sims, of Summit Drive, Calcutta, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 85.

Born in East Liverpool, June 23, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Sarah Bolles Hoyt. A lifetime area resident, she volunteered as a chaplain assistant at the East Liverpool City Hospital at one time. She was a member of the Crystal Chapter 18 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Sims, on January 20, 1990. The couple married November 22, 1947. She was also preceded in death by six sisters: Grace Kidd, Mildred Hoyt, Pat Nagle, Betty Carmen, Sarah Sine and Helen Parvin and four brothers: Dale, Paul, Charles and Jack Hoyt.

Survivors include her two sons, R. Alan Sims, and his wife Christine, of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Richard B. Sims, and his companion Jacquie, of East Liverpool. There are also four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Dr. Vel Vais of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
