Obituary for Steve M. Tatgenhorst

Steve M. Tatgenhorst, of East Liverpool, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the East Liverpool City Hospital after suddenly taking ill. He was 63.

Born in Salem, Ohio, May 30, 1951, he was a son of the late Robert S. and Sarah Williams Tatgenhorst. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1969, he worked as a truck driver at one time.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He is the Commander at the VFW Post #66, past Commander of the American Legion Post #736, a member of the DAV John W. Covert #47 Chapter, Orioles Lodge, Moose Lodge #122, Elks Lodge #258, and the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Duffy Tatgenhorst, whom he married May 22, 1987. There are two daughters, Dawn Buckley, and her husband Clifford, of Austintown, and Heather Fisher, and her fiancé Scott Francis, of East Liverpool, as well as six grandchildren: Kayla Fisher, Steve Fisher, Desiray Fisher, Miranda Fisher, Noelle Buckley and Elijah Buckley.

He also leaves three sisters, Lynn Long, Meredith “Putsy” Adkins, and her husband Lonnie, and Sally Bowers, and her husband Larry, and two brothers, Bruce Tatgenhorst, and his wife Penney, and Tony Tatgenhorst, and Carol, all of East Liverpool, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Dean Buckley, a sister, Rebecca Martin, and two brothers, Raymond Pyle and Robert H. Tatgenhorst, Sr.

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Bob Tatgenhorst, Steve’s nephew, will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
