Obituary for Dorothy L. Jividen

Dorothy L. Jividen, 87, passed away at 10:43 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Stone Pear Pavilion in Chester, where she had resided since September. She was surrounded at the time of her death by her loved ones.

Born at home in Newell on February 27, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Roy L. and Bertie M. Smith Jividen and was a lifetime resident of Grant Street in Newell.

For over 37 years, she was a telephone operator and supervisor for Ohio Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1983. She belonged to the Telephone Company Pioneers Club.

Dorothy’s faith was very important in her life and she was a faithful member of the Newell 1st Church of the Nazarene, and had long been a part of the Peacemakers Sunday School class, having served as president and secretary at one time.

Surviving her is a sister, Marlene Minor and her husband, Carl, of Chester, and a brother, Delmar Jividen and his wife, Libby, of Newell. Dorothy also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in her death by two brothers, Leonard J. Jividen and Gerald W. Jividen.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from noon to 6 p.m. Pastor Timothy Bess of the church will conduct a funeral service Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the fellowship hall at the 1st Church of the Nazarene in Newell.
