Obituary for Edward G. Vollberg

Edward G. Vollberg, 70

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Edward G. Vollberg, 70, of Columbus, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away suddenly Friday, May 1, 2015 at his home. He was born September 15, 1944 to Gladys C. Volk of Powell, Ohio, and the late Edward L. Vollberg.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys; daughter, Lori Guy, East Palestine, Ohio; sister, Carol A. (Paul) Gydosh, Powell, Ohio; grandchildren, Schaelee and Sela and sister-in-law, Dianna Vollberg of East Liverpool, Ohio, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his Father, Ed is preceded in death by his son, Edward Phillip Vollberg and brother, Thomas G. Vollberg.
Ed served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, receiving three Purple Hearts, among many other honors in service to his country.
He continued to live the Marine Corps principles throughout his life and in his career as a well-known building contractor. He was dedicated to his family, sharp and quick-witted with an always-ready joke—a testament to the creative, inventive and loyal person he was.
Friends may visit Thursday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 3 to 7 p.m. Father Peter Haladej will officiate at a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
