Obituary for Woodrow L. Bartlett

Lisbon Street resident Woodrow “Mick” Bartlett passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, May 9, 2015 while en route to a family vacation with his wife, Judy. “Mick”, as he was known by his family and friends, died at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, WV, where he was taken after becoming ill. He was 69.

He was born on June 14, 1945 in Parkersburg, WV, a son of Emerson Bartlett and Margaret Cross Bartlett Jackson, who preceded him in death. Mick was also preceded by his step-father, Warren Jackson.

Raised in this area, he was graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1963. He was a proud American and spent 23 years serving in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1998 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Following his military career, Mick was associated with Borg-Warner as an area manager for Wells Fargo armored cars.

In his spare time, he loved going fishing, watching the horse races at Mountaineer, cheering for the Steelers with his son, Donald, and spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren and his dogs, Chelsea, Jazmine and Kozee.

Surviving him at home is his wife, Julia “Judy” Maxwell Bartlett, whom he married on November 5, 1998.

He also leaves behind a daughter, Tisha Frye of Virginia; a son, Donald Bartlett and his companion, Amber Pfalzgraf, of Locust Grove, VA; and a step-daughter, Melissa Lewis of East Liverpool. There are five grandchildren: Sunni Bartlett, Kelton Bartlett, Cheyenne Lewis, Renee Lewis and Trinity Lewis, along with a special friend, Mellissa Wymer and her family. Additional survivors include a sister, Helen Bayles and her husband, Sonny, of Columbus; a brother, Emerson Bartlett and his wife, Massie, of East Liverpool; a step-brother, Gale Jackson and his wife, Lori, also of East Liverpool; and a step-sister, Phyllis Oyster and her husband, Dan, also of East Liverpool, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mick was preceded in death in 1996 by a beloved son, Shane Bartlett.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with Mick’s brother-in-law, Gordon “Sonny” Bayles, officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will provide full military honors.
