Obituary for Isa V. Brown (Owens)

Isa Vilena “Pat” Cornwell Brown, 104, formerly of Maple Drive, Calcutta, and most recently a resident of the Pepperberry Suites, Fox Lane, Chester, WV, passed away on May 23, 2015, at the Calcutta Health Care Center at 10:35 p.m.

Born January 30, 1911 at Wick, WV, daughter of Ingram Owens and Ella Virginia Whaley Owens, her immediate family consisted of four brothers and two sisters predeceasing her. Her first husband, George W. Cornwell, Sr. of East Liverpool, passed away April 1969. She married Earl F. Brown of East Liverpool, on October 26, 1984. Earl passed away January 8, 2009.

Isa leaves one daughter, Rheta Archer formerly of Toronto, Ohio, and most recently of St. Barnabas Retirement Village, Gibsonia, PA, and a son, George Cornwell (Carol) of Wellsville. She was predeceased by a son William Cornwell in September 2013.

She leaves granddaughters, Deborah Cornwell of Wellsville, Jennifer Archer Doyle (Byrne) of Wexford, PA, Carrie Cornwell of Springboro, Ohio, Karen Schmitt (Steve) of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Keristen Musser (Tony) of New Brighton, PA, and USAF Retired Colonel Michele Lavey (Milton Wyle) of Florida, as well as Cathy (Phil) Keenan of East Liverpool.

Surviving grandsons are Jeffrey (Sharon) Archer of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Joseph Cornwell of Manchester, Connecticut.

She also leaves behind step-sons, Earl Brown (Margaret) of East Liverpool, and Ronald Brown of Follansbee, WV, and step-daughter Lulu Mae Copeland of East Liverpool.

She lead an active social and fraternal life, being a 76 year member of the Order of the
Eastern Star, Wellsville Chapter 213, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1948, followed by many years with memberships in OES, Crystal Chapter 18, East Liverpool. Her affiliated membership included White Shrine of Jerusalem past officer, Ruth Shrine 64 Poland, Ohio and Social Order of Beauceants Assembly 71 East Liverpool, Secretary Past Matron’s Association OES Wellsville and Kate Duese Association, OES. Memberships also included Beaver Local Homemakers and East Liverpool Senior Citizens, as well as the former Wellsville Civic Club where she served as President.

A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellsville, and the Golden Reapers Sunday School Class, her membership transferred to Trinity Presbyterian Church of East Liverpool in 2012. She loved attending there with former neighbor Pat Sloane of Calcutta, Ohio.

In addition to the grandchildren there are numerous great and great-great grandchildren left behind.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. An Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and the funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, with Pastor Stephen Cramer of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Calcutta Cemetery Mausoleum.

Family and friends will then gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
