Obituary for Ethel Louise Chavis (Dixon)

ETHEL LOUISE CHAVIS, 83

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ethel Louise Chavis, passed away at the age of 83 at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at her home.

Born in Girard, Alabama on February 11, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Viola Jakes Dixon.

A devoted homemaker, she was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Midland and had served on the usher board at one time. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Midland.

She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Carter of East Liverpool, and Carla Oliver of Alexandria, VA, along with a son, Chris Chavis, also of East Liverpool. A longtime companion, William Gipson of East Liverpool, survives as well.

There are eight grandchildren: Braxton Carter, Derek Carter, Shawnita Bowan, Shannon Pruett, Nevaeh Chavis, Christopher Chavis, Noah Chavis and Sydni Oliver; eight great-grandchildren: Brittyn Carter, Arian Parson, Camden Pruett, Chaz Pruett, Derek Carter, Preston Foster, Foster Reed Carter, and Shauntrice Carter; and one great-great-grandchild, Zayden Matthews.

Ethel’s husband, John E. Chavis, passed away on November 25, 1998. Ethel’s brother, Robert Dixon, preceded her in death as well.

Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home with Minister Denise Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
