Obituary for Shirley M. Green (Allison)

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Shirley Mae Allison Green, of East Liverpool, passed away at the Salem Regional Medical Center on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the age of 79. She will be missed and remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandma – and a wonderful lady and cherished friend to all.

Born in East Liverpool, November 16, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Annie Dexter Allison and was a 1953 graduate of East Liverpool High School. She grew up as a farm girl, eventually raising a large family of her own, along with her husband and lifelong love, Albert D. “Al” Green. Together, they had owned and operated M&A Motors in East Liverpool for 53 years.

Shirley’s devotion to her husband, whom she married on October 21, 1951, as well as her love of family, flowers and decorating, led her to many outlets for her passions. Whether it was coaching the Dixonville Cheerleaders or serving as Youth Director at 1st Church of Christ, Shirley was an involved member of the community who also participated in Junior Women’s Society, Red Stocking Review, Garden Club, Dahlia Society, Pottery Festival Committee and the East Liverpool Historical Society. A consummate cook, she also had a beautiful voice and was an accomplished organist. Shirley was also very fashionable, and was well-known as being meticulously dressed.

Mostly, she just enjoyed being with Al, who preceded her in death on November 29, 2001. They took great pride in their seven children, who survive: Anna Wickham and her husband, Joseph, of Surprise, AZ; Diana Haney and her husband, John, of Lisbon; Carla Owens and her husband, Ernie, of East Liverpool; Carole Waite of Calcutta; Nancy Baker of LaCroft; and Alison “Abby” Miller and her husband, Kevin; of Clermont, Florida, along with a son, A. Donald Green and his wife, Terri, also of East Liverpool.

Other survivors include seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, as well as one great-great-grandchild. Shirley is also survived by two sisters, Betty Glynn and her husband, Don, of Salem, and Cecilia Loughridge and her husband, Bud, of Burneyville, OK, along with a brother, Ennis Joe Allison and his wife, Eleanor, also of Salem.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, James Allison, as well as her beloved dog, Stormy.

A private graveside memorial service will be planned at a later date.
