Obituary for JoAnne Sulkes Jenison (Goldsmith)
Jo Anne Goldsmith Sulkes Jenison, a long-time East Liverpool resident, died at home Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the age of 86 surrounded by her husband, Dean, and her two children. She had been living in Sun City Center, Florida for the past 3 years, and had been receiving treatment for metastatic breast cancer for the past 6 years.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 17, 1928, to the late Henry and Rebecca Tahl Goldsmith. A graduate of Fairview High School in Dayton, she then received a degree in Dental Hygiene from The Ohio State University. Following her marriage in 1951 to Dr. William Z. Sulkes, she came to East Liverpool, where she became immersed in the community and was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
Jo Anne moved to Plant City, Florida after the death of Dr. Sulkes in 1981. In 1985, she married Dean Jenison, who survives her at their home in Sun City Center. She was well known for her intelligent sense of humor, passion for travel, and competitive spirit when playing golf and bridge. She provided an example of how to weather adversities while still enjoying life.
A Life Member of Hadassah, she belonged to Temple Beth Shalom, and she was also a member of the East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary.
In addition to Dean, she is survived by a daughter, Judith Sulkes Ridgway and her husband, Richard, of Westerville, OH, and a son, Stephen Sulkes and his wife, Melissa Schiff, of Rochester, NY.
There are four grandchildren: Katherine Ridgway Hammer and her husband, Michael; Ezekiel Sulkes, William Ridgway, and Gabriel Sulkes. A sister, Gloria Moyer and her husband, Robert, survive as well.
Graveside services will take place at Riverview Cemetery at noon on Monday, with Rabbi Howie Stein of Pittsburgh as the officiant. Following the burial, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship and remembrance.
