Mary Ellen Simms Billie, 76

SALINEVILLE – Mary Ellen Simms Billie, 76, passed away with her family by her side, at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 at her residence in Salineville.

She was born on January 26, 1939 in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late William and Martha Reisinger Simms, Mary Ellen was a lifetime area resident.

Mary Ellen was a graduate of East Liverpool High School in 1956, and was very active with her class in the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association. She and her close friends were proudly known as the “Divas”.

A registered nurse for over 50 years, Mary Ellen had retired from the East Liverpool City Hospital where she was fondly referred to as “MEG”.

She is survived by a daughter, Toni Pastore, a son, Craig D. Godwin, and his wife who was Mary Ellen’s primary caregiver, Colleen Cronin, all of Salineville. There are four grandchildren, Jamin Pastore, and his wife Natalie, of Charlotte, NC, Kathryn Pastore of Salineville, Joshua Pastore of DelRay Beach, FL, and Shelby Godwin of Fairmont, WV. There is also one great-grandson, Asher Pastore.

Also surviving is her brother, Arnold “Shorty” Simms, of El Paso, TX, and Mary Ellen’s companion of the last ten years, Bob Wines of Calcutta.

In addition to her parents Mary Ellen was preceded by a brother Bruce Reisinger.

A memorial service will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday at 6 p.m. with her daughter Toni Pastore leading the service. Family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
