Obituary for Elizabeth Catherine Dobbs (Mattern)

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH - Elizabeth Catherine Mattern Dobbs of East Liverpool, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015. She was 97.

Born in East Liverpool, April 13, 1918, she was a daughter of the late John P. and Docia Pitman Mattern. A resident of this area all her life, she was Christian by faith. She worked at the former Edwin M. Knowles Pottery and the Homer Laughlin China Company and was active with the Red Cross at one time where she was a charter member of the Grey Ladies. She enjoyed traveling and volunteered with the Salvation Army and FISH. A member of the 30+30 organization, she also participated in the East Liverpool Area Seniors.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Daniel T. Dobbs, her second husband Byron “Barney” Lunger, a daughter Patricia Ann Dobbs Hunley, a great-grandson Brenden Kaneski, a sister Ines Wright, and six brothers: Robert, John, Howard, Paul, Carl, and Edwin Mattern.

Survivors include her four grandchildren: Beth A. Perenovich of East Liverpool, Tammy Kaneski and her husband, William, of Chippewa, Lori Ferrainolo and her husband, David, of East Liverpool, and Wendi Hunley of East Liverpool; as well as five great-grandchildren: Marisa, Chad, Sharelle, Kalila, and Dathan; five step-grandchildren: John T. Deem, Robert Deem, Thomas Deem, Lori Sue Deem, and Kristina Deem; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Jeff Corbett, a great-nephew, will conduct a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool for fellowship.
