Willie J. Jones Jr., 84

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH – Willie J. “Spike” Jones Jr., of Erie Street, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the East Liverpool City Hospital. He was 84.

Born in Humboldt, Tennessee, June 21, 1931, he was a son of the late Esther Jones. Willie worked at the former Crucible Steel Company until 1982. He was also worked at Mountaineer Resort, Pioneer Pottery, and was a self-employed electrician and for many years owned and operated his TV repair business, Jones’ TV Repair on Mulberry Street.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Korea where he earned two Bronze Campaign Stars.

A member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, he served the church as a Deacon. He also was a member of the Crazy 8 Club and was the treasurer of the Tri-State Black History Museum.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cassie Allen Jones on November 29, 1996. On July 11, 1998 he married Marsha Porter Jones of Wellsville.

In addition to his wife and mother, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmie “Moose” Jones, and two brothers, Rev. James Curry and Ed Jones.

A sister survives, Teresia Carr and her husband, William, of Tennessee; a niece Loretta Farmer and her husband, Curtis, and a great-niece Stephanie Farmer all of Tennessee; a niece Loretta Martin and her husband, Jerry, of Colorado; 2 nephews: James Curry and his wife, Peggy, and Rev. Tom Curry and his wife, Justine, all of Colorado; three step-children: Jay Eugene Porter and Fern Porter both of Wellsville, and Brian A. Porter I and his wife, Kimberly, of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter-in-law Janice Jones of Tennessee; a sister-in-law Cynthia Curry of Colorado; three grandchildren: Tifiney “T.T.” Jones of East Liverpool, Jimmie Jones and his wife, Casey, of East Palestine, and Mark “Munchie” Jones of East Liverpool; as well as 13 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren, along with many additional nieces and nephews and a god daughter Taylor Fair.

Friends may visit Monday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Rolland L. Owens, Sr. of the church will conduct a funeral service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Industry, Pennsylvania where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
