Obituary for Grace D. Ours (Shields)

EAST LIVERPOOL – Grace D. Shields Ours, of East Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Weirton Medical Center. She was 93.

Born in Chester, West Virginia, August 23, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Hobert and Violet Wolfe Shields. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool where she was a member of the Rose of Sharon Class and the Hill ‘n Dale Club. At one time, she volunteered with the Board of Visitors in Columbiana County.

Her husband, Dennie W. Ours, Sr., died May 29, 2009. The couple married October 17, 1942. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dennie W. Ours, Jr. on October 7, 2007, a sister Patty Shields and 5 brothers, Ray, Bert, Bill, Jack and Jim Shields.

Survivors include four daughters, Norma Clendenning of Calcutta; Alice Perkins of Wellsville; Charlotte Morris and her husband, Terry, of Lisbon; and Vicki Ours Cross and her husband, James Cross, Jr., of Salem. There are 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition, four sisters survive, Gladys Means of Glenmoor, June Chuck of Lisbon, Florence Reed of Calcutta and Shirley Gutierrez of Beaver, Pennsylvania.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Tom Jones will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Yellow Creek Presbyterian Cemetery.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
