Obituary for George Robert McGaffic

East Liverpool resident George Robert “Bob” McGaffic passed away at his home at 3:21 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Born at home in Chester on October 12, 1925, he was one of seven children of the late Clyde E. and Madora Susan Lockhart McGaffic. He was raised in this area and had been involved in many local baseball leagues as a young man, and had spent most of his working life at the GM plant in Lordstown, retiring in 1991.

On June 14, 1947, he married the former Frances Snow, and they made their home in East Liverpool for over 68 years together. They enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Steelers and the Penguins, and loved sitting on the porch watching their grandkids swim in the backyard pool. Bob was also a part of several bowling leagues and spent time growing roses in his garden. Frances survives him at home.

A Methodist by faith, he was a member of United Calvary Methodist Church for many years. He also belonged to the UAW Local 1112.

In addition to his wife, Bob leaves behind two daughters: Mary Lou Maltarich and her husband, Bob, of Millersburg, OH; and Linda Ketchum and her husband, Jeff, of Wellsville. There are six grandchildren: Crystal Agar and her husband, Alan, of Woodstock, GA; Dave Ketchum of Niles, OH; Danielle Wright of Wellsville; Kevin Maltarich and his wife, Carrie, of Millersburg; Kathy Fair and her husband, Mike, also of Millersburg; Steve Ketchum and his wife, Billie Jo, of Sebring.

Bob was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by four sisters and two brothers: Norma Fry of Ravenna, OH; Evelyn DeBee of Washington, PA; Betty James of East Liverpool; Karen Taylor and her husband, Bob, also of East Liverpool; Glenn McGaffic and his wife, Eileen of East Liverpool; and Allen McGaffic and his wife, Patty, also of East Liverpool. Also surviving is a beloved brother-in-law, Elwin Snow of Midland.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Community Church will conduct services to be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at Northside Church.
