Obituary for Linda Mae Fitch (Smith)

LINDA M. SMITH FITCH, 70

EAST LIVERPOOL – Early Wednesday morning, January 27, 2016, Linda M. Fitch, 70, went to be with her Lord and the love of her life, Bill. She was a warrior in the battle against cancer, and at the time of her death, she was surrounded by family at her home in LaCroft.

Born on May 29, 1945 in East Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Beryl McCallister Smith. She spent her lifetime in this area, with the exception of winters spent in Daytona Beach, FL.

A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1963, Linda later received her GED – and proudly earned her business degree from Kent State University in 1993.

On May 12, 1962, she married William G. “Bill” Fitch. Together, they raised a close and loving family who supported each other throughout all the joys and sorrows of life. A devoted volunteer, she had been involved with Campfire Girls as president and board member, and had served as president of the Glenmoor American Legion Post #736 Ladies Auxiliary.

While in Florida, she was president of Colonial Colony South Home Owners Association. Throughout the years, she loved taking cruises and road trips across the country with Bill. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2012, and Linda always proclaimed he was her “first and last” she had ever loved.

Survivors include three daughters: Laura Butler and her husband, Kenny; Stefanie Fitch and the “love of her life”, Bruce Smith, all of East Liverpool; and Heather Ours and her husband, Dennie, of Wellsville. A son, William Gerald Fitch, Jr., preceded her in death in 1970.

There are eight grandchildren: Krista Boram and her husband, Ron; Jacob Fitch and Breezy Williams; Ashley Butler-Panter; Kala Veon and her husband, Jack; Drew Prescott; Dee Ours and his wife, Dedra; Vince Ours, and Anthony Ours, as well as twelve great-grandchildren: Morgan, Katie, Conner, Delaney, Harlin, Hayden, Sutton, Maison, Austin, Ryan, Tess and Cameron. Linda was preceded in death on February 1, 2007 by her grandson, Cpl. Tyler Butler.

Linda will also be greatly missed by her sister-in-law and best buddy, Jean Fitch, of East Liverpool, and brother-and-sister-in-law, Gary and Glenda Fitch, also of East Liverpool, along with her faithful feline companion, “Miss Caroline Nib-$h!ts”, and numerous nieces and nephews. A brother, Arthur Smith, preceded her in death as well as two brothers-in-law, Bob and Dan Fitch.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

John J. Milhoan of Hope Christian Fellowship will conduct services at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Linda will be laid to rest beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Family and friends will gather at Three Blessings for a meal and continued time of fellowship following the burial.

Linda lived life to the fullest; her spirit will continue on through her motto: “a life not lived is no life at all.”
