Obituary for Betty Louise Starkey (Yeater)

BETTY L. STARKEY, 88

EAST LIVERPOOL – Betty L. Starkey, who had moved to this area three years ago to be closer to family, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at East Liverpool City Hospital. A resident of Azalea Avenue in East Liverpool, she was 88.

She was a native of Smithfield, WV, born there on July 24, 1927 to Russell and Laura Gray Yeater. It was there she had met her husband, Alden Starkey, and together they moved to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1961. He preceded her in death in 2001.

Betty had been associated with Hallmark Cards in Leavenworth until her retirement. She loved playing cards, BINGO, and was involved in numerous bowling leagues. Sweet and kind by nature, she was a friend to everyone she met.

Surviving is a son, Brian Starkey and his wife, Dianna, with whom she resided in East Liverpool. There are three grandchildren: Kim Taylor and her husband, Jake, of Tampa, FL; Kevin Starkey of Kansas City, MO; and Brittany Farnsworth and her husband, Matt, of Negley, OH, as well as a daughter-in-law, Susan Starkey, of Easton, KS. Two great-grandchildren, Sydney Farnsworth and Sebastian Starkey, who meant the world to her, also survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death in 2014 by a son, Randy Starkey, and by a grandson, Brian Scott Starkey, who passed away in 2012. She was the last living sibling in her large family – all born at home – having been preceded by two sisters and five brothers.

Arrangements are being handled by the Dawson Funeral Home. Betty will be laid to rest in Smithfield, WV – where she and Alden first met – at a later date.
