Obituary for Warren R Higgins

WARREN R. “TENNESSEE” HIGGINS, 80

ROGERS – Warren R. Higgins of Sprucevale Road in Rogers, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman at 8: 34 p.m. Saturday evening, April 9, 2016. “Tennessee”, as he was known to his family and friends, was 80 years old.

Born in Erwin, Tennessee on May 3, 1935, he was a son of the late Atlas Higgins Mathes.

He had been self-employed as a concrete contractor and retired as a bricklayer.

An avid fisherman, he attended Northside Community Church.

Warren was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Higgins, who died over 30 years ago. On July 25, 2003, he married the former Becky Williams, who survives him at home.

There are three daughters: Starr Fox of Alliance, Becky Blake of Beloit, and Jamie Becker, of Sebring, along with a son, “Buck” Higgins and his wife, Bonnie, of Beloit. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

He also leaves behind three sisters: Ruth Gfeller and her husband, Richard, of Salem; Betty Hines of Lansing, MI; and Linda Binius of Alliance, as well as a brother, Duard Mathes and his wife, Delores, of Alliance. Warren will also be missed by his canine companion, Pepper.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers: Allen, Jerry, Kenny, Richard and Luther Mathes, as well as Danis Higgins.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Church, and Pastor Bill Wagner of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, will conduct services to be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Warren will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
