Obituary for James Markley Wilson
James Markley “Mark” Wilson, 70, passed away at his home on Ambrose Avenue in East Liverpool at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016. He had endured a courageous three-month battle with cancer and was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
A son of the late Glen V. and Sarah Helen Hendershot Wilson, he was born in Charleston, South Carolina on June 19, 1945. He had lived in this area since he was a young boy, and was a 1963 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Mark was a Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holder for over 20 years. He also loved to fish, and enjoyed NASCAR races – and also loved camping with friends at the MidOhio Indy car races. He was a 25-year member of the Elks Lodge #258.
On January 7, 1987, he married the former Sarah Linebaugh, who survives him at home. He and Sarah were owners of Potters Insurance until their retirement in 2010. Mark had also worked at Crucible Steel at one time.
He was a member of the First Church of Christ (Disciples).
In addition to Sarah, he is survived by two daughters: Ann Constien and her husband, Ron, of Edwards, CO, and Heather Gelfer and her husband, Shane, of Conneaut, Ohio. There are two granddaughters, Valerie and Elizabeth Constien, along with three stepchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
Per Mark’s wishes, there will be no calling hours, but a celebration of his life will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Norm Eckert officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A remembrance luncheon will take place at the Dawson Family Center following the service.
Contributions in Mark’s name may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406, or to Community Hospice, 2341 East State Street, Suite B, Salem, Ohio 44460.
Sarah, Ann and Heather would personally like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the care and compassion Mark received from Community Hospice. It will never be forgotten.
