LORETTA J. PARSONS WOODS, 86

EAST LIVERPOOL – Loretta J. Woods, 86, of Smithfield Street in East Liverpool, passed away surrounded by her loving family at East Liverpool City Hospital on Thursday morning, September 1, 2016.

A daughter of the late Viral Nelson Parsons and Geneva Gay Richardson Parsons, she was born at home in Wellsville on February 14, 1930. She was a 1948 graduate of Wellsville High School, where she was the head majorette.

On June 11, 1948, she married the love of her life, John R. “Jack” Woods, who passed away on March 31, 2009. Throughout her life, Loretta would say that her family was her #1 priority; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was raised in the former Wellsville Church of the Nazarene, which later became The Living Well.

Survivors include two daughters and one son: Diana Smith and her husband, Chuck; Pam Armstrong and her husband, Kenyon; and Michael Woods, all of East Liverpool.

Loretta was a loving grandmother to Shawn Woods, Jason Woods, Autumn Armstrong and her companion, Louie Schafer; Kenny Armstrong, Jordan Warrick and her husband, Lonnie; and John Smith and his wife, Mindy. There are seven great-grandchildren as well: Halen Warrick, Tyler Smith, Noah Smith, Madeline Smith, Aiden Schafer, Allison Sprouse and Nathan Sprouse.

In addition to her husband, Loretta was preceded in death in 1985 by her son, John “Pat” Woods, as well as her daughter-in-law, Nancy, who died in 1995. She was also preceded by a sister, Betty Moore, and a brother, Viral “Bud” Parsons.

The family will receive friends at the Dawson Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Pastor Dirk Hall of The Living Well Church will officiate at services to be held at the funeral home Tuesday at noon.

Loretta will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery, after which time friends and family will return to the Living Well Church for a continued time of fellowship.
