JOHN WILLIAM “JACK” HOPPER, SR., 92

EAST LIVERPOOL – John William “Jack” Hopper, Sr., who lived for much of his life on Seventh Avenue in LaCroft, died following a lingering illness, on Tuesday afternoon, September 6, 2016 at East Liverpool City Hospital. He was 92.

Born in Midland, PA, on March 19, 1924, he was a son of the late Charles and Myrtle Brunner Hopper. He was a member of the Class of 1942 of East Liverpool High School, and married his wife, Doloras C. Watson Hopper on August 20, 1943.

For over 25 years, Jack worked at the former Crucible Steel Corporation, retiring in 1982. Prior to Crucible, he worked at Smith & Phillips and Homer Laughlin China. He was heavily involved in the Masonic Lodge #315, and was a life sponsor of the Knight Templar Eye Foundation. He belonged to the East Liverpool Chapter of the 100 Royal Arch Masons, the Keramos Council #95 Royal & Select Masons, Pilgrim Commandry #55, Knights Templar, Shannon Council #28, and Knight Mason of Dublin, Ireland, Crystal Chapter #18 Eastern Star. Jack was also a 32nd degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.

Jack and Doloras were also members of the First United Methodist Church in East Liverpool.

Doloras preceded him in death on November 4, 2003.

He is survived by his children: Rebecca Engelhard and her husband, Gary, of Springboro, OH; Jacqueline Craft and her husband, George, of Bluffton, SC; Cindy Wilson of East Liverpool; and John W. Hopper, Jr., and his wife, Diane, of Cincinnati. There are eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jack also leaves behind his sisters, Loretta Platt of Columbus, and Frances Brader and her husband, Robert, of Allentown, PA. Preceding him were two sisters, Delores Ann Hopper and Betty Jean Hopper, as well as two brothers, Donald Hopper and Charles Hopper.

Jack will be buried next to his wife, Doloras, at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling Jack’s arrangements. At Jack’s request, there will be no viewing. The family respectfully asks that any donations be sent to the
