Obituary for Eileen Mae Bailey (Lanning)

EILEEN M. LANNING BAILEY, 92

EAST LIVERPOOL – Eileen Mae Lanning Bailey passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92 at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016. She had lived most of her life on Holliday Street in East Liverpool but had spent the last few years at Valley Oaks Care Center.

A daughter of the late Jerry Lanning and Esther Rhodes Lanning Patterson, she was born on July 19, 1924 in East Liverpool. A 1942 graduate of East Liverpool High School, she quickly fell for her husband, Charles Ray Bailey, Jr., and they were married on July 26, 1942.

Even at a young age, Eileen was a business woman at heart. She had an entrepreneurial spirit having been the owner and proprietor of a dress shop in downtown East Liverpool. She was a familiar face as the cafeteria manager at North Elementary School upon its opening in 1968, and later became a licensed realtor. She had even written a book about her life, and was always interested in the lives of others.

Never content to sit idle, she was always searching for the next biggest challenge, and even enrolled in computer classes well into her 70’s. Always smiling, she was kind to everyone she met, and just wanted everyone to be happy.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Charleen Fitzgerald and her husband, Richard, of Cambridge, and Rebecca “Becky” Manning and her husband, Pete, of Chester. There are two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael Fitzgerald, and numerous friends, nieces and nephews who were special to her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, who died on June 10, 2000, as well as a brother, Kenneth Lanning.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, where the family will be present from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Pastor Norm Eckert of Beechwood Free Methodist Church will conduct services at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Eileen will be laid to rest beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the burial, friends and family will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
