Thelma I. Spears McKinnon, 89

ALLIANCE, OH – Thelma I. Spears McKinnon, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017 with her family by her side at Canterbury Villa in Alliance. Thelma was 89.

Born in Wellsville, January 19, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Spears and Bernice McCrea Spears Newton. A lifetime area resident, she was a member of the Wellsville High School Class of 1946 and was an apartment manager in Toronto from 1979-1985. Thelma moved to Alliance in 2000.

A devoted wife, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. McKinnon, on March 30, 2000. The couple married on June 22, 1945. Thelma enjoyed bowling, camping with her family, traveling, writing poems, and being a leader in the Girl Scouts while her girls were young.

Thelma was the mother of four daughters: Catherine Ruth “Kitty” Sine, and her husband Joe, of Wynne, Arkansas, Virginia Lee “Ginger” Taylor of East Liverpool, Carol Sue Cirino, and her husband Al, of Alliance, and Bobby Jean Rader, of Alliance; and a son, Charles R. McKinnon of Alliance.

There are four grandchildren, Troy Vuletic (Mindi), Caryann Kriner (James), Shannon Eric Fair (Dannielle), and Robert Dean Huff (Kellie); seven great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren and four step grandchildren as well. She is also survived by a half-sister, Pat Newton Boyle, of Springhill, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded by a sister, Evelyn Dickinson, and by her step-father, Arthur “Piggy” Newton.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Longs Run Cemetery.
