Obituary for William E Gaston

EAST LIVERPOOL - William Emmett Gaston, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 29, 2017, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in East Liverpool on March 9, 1924, the son of Emmett James and Frances Marie Whipping Gaston. Bill was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool, where he served as a faithful Elder and Sunday School Superintendent/Teacher.

He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1942. He married his wife, Martha Reaney Gaston, on November 4, 1948, while attending The College of Wooster, where she worked in the Admissions Office. His college roommate, Jack Weitzel, said, “Theirs was a love story like no other.” Bill interrupted his degree to serve as a bombardier in the U.S. Army Air Forces and U.S. Army Infantry: B-24 Aircraft, 7th Air Force, 11th Bomb Group, 42nd Bomb Squadron. He graduated from Wooster with a degree in Economics in 1949.

They returned to East Liverpool where Bill started Culligan Water Conditioning Company and served as Vice President of Taylor, Smith & Taylor Pottery. He was associated with Town & Village Insurance for many years following TS&T.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Martha, and sister Sara Marie Riel of Dover; and is survived by their daughters: Gretchen Gaston; Sally (Don) Hamilton; Mary Martha (Michael) Gingerella; and Dianne (Darrell) Holland.

Bill also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Kathryn Price; Lindy Hamilton-Mayled; Matthew Gingerella; Christopher Gingerella; Emily Holland; Olivia Holland; and Grant Holland; and a great-grandchild: Adelyn Gingerella.

Bill is survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will miss “Sweet Uncle Bill.” He will also be fondly remembered by his Pilot, George Kintzing, along with his and Martha’s dear friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Altercare of Nobles Pond in Canton, Ohio.

There will be a private service with family friend Rev. David de Vries officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery with full military honors.
