Obituary for David Larry Armstrong

EAST LIVERPOOL – David Larry Armstrong, beloved husband, dad, grandpap and friend, passed away at the age of 81 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh at 8:52 a.m. Friday morning, June 2, 2017. “Larry”, as he was best known, was encircled at the time of his death by his family who had been by his side continuously throughout his brief illness.

A son of the late Lester B. Armstrong and Velma Jane Grimes Armstrong McMillen, he was born in East Liverpool on April 21, 1936 and was a 1954 graduate of Wellsville High School.
He spent his entire life in this area.

For many years, he had been a laboratory technician at Quaker State/Ergon. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, chasing grandchildren, and helping his friends who considered him a “computer whiz.” He was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir.

He had a lifelong appreciation for music, was the consummate band booster when his daughters were in high school, and continued to play the trombone in the “pit band” for school musicals. He was also a familiar fixture in both the Wellsville Alumni Band and the East Liverpool Area Alumni Band, and also enjoyed his friendships in the Triangle Amateur Radio Club. But more than anything, he enjoyed being with his loved ones, and had been busy planning a family vacation cruise just a few weeks ago.

He leaves behind his wife, Linda Landis Morrow Armstrong, whom he married on July 29, 1995 and together, they shared many happy years.

Also surviving are his cherished daughters, Karen Saller and her husband, Eric, of Phoenix, AZ; Sally Smith and her husband, Craig, of Rochester, NY; and Linda Armstrong Persina and her husband, Gene Cossey, of Springboro, OH, as well as a stepson, Rob Morrow, of East Liverpool. There are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who brought Larry so much joy.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a stepson, Brian Douglas Morrow, who died in 1971.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Rev. Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks and Nancy DeStefano of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, will officiate at a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Following the service, the family and friends will gather in Fellowship Hall at the church for a continued time of fellowship and lunch.
