Obituary for Gloria Mitchell (Garcia)

Gloria Garcia Mitchell, who lived for many years with her family on St. Clair Avenue in East Liverpool, passed away at 12:49 a.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She had relocated to that area in recent years to be near her daughter, Robbi Jo, who was at her side at the time of her death. Gloria was a good and faithful servant of the Lord and now joins many loved ones who were waiting for her in Heaven.

Born in Washington, PA, on July 24, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Raphael and Vera Verdin Garcia. She was a 1952 graduate of Burgettstown High School.

On November 22, 1958, she married Joseph J. Mitchell of Bulger, PA. She and Joe moved to East Liverpool when he took a teaching job here. Gloria later worked with the city schools as well, primarily as a librarian at North Elementary School, where she always had a kind word and listening ear for each and every student who crossed her path. She was an avid reader herself, and especially loved mysteries.

While in East Liverpool, Gloria was a member of Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church.

Her husband, Joe, preceded her in death on October 31, 1991. After the loss of Joe, her family and friends became even more special to her – especially her grandchildren and her sister, Lana.

Gloria will be deeply missed by her daughter, Robbi Jo Mitchell-Enderle and her husband, Brian, of Howard, Ohio, as well as her son, Ralph Lee Mitchell and his wife, Virginia, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Cole Mitchell Enderle, Joseph Spencer Enderle and Ryan Salzman; her sister, Lana Longstreth; a niece, Kristen Longstreth Lyons and her husband, Tim; nephew Eric Longstreth and his wife, Heather; great nieces Olivia and Lucia; and great nephews, Samuel and Wesley.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dewayne Longstreth.

Father Peter Haladej of Holy Trinity Parish will officiate at a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the James J. Hocking Center (formerly St. Aloysius School).

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Gloria will be laid to rest beside her husband, Joe, at Riverview Cemetery. Following the burial, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.

Those wishing to do so may make gifts in Gloria’s memory to Kindred Hospice, 112 Harcourt Road, Suite 3, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 or Ohio Eastern Star Home, 1451 Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.
