ROBERT E. GODWIN, 88

EAST LIVERPOOL – Robert E. Godwin, 88, peacefully passed away in the presence of his family following a lingering illness at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017. Bob had been residing at The Stone Pear pavilion recently but had lived for many years on Denver Street in East Liverpool.

He was a son of the late John and Olive Bennett Godwin, born in Congo, WV on June 24, 1929. A 1947 graduate of Wells High School, he then served in the US Air Force for 4 years from 1951 to 1955. Bob worked for over 33 years for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, and had also been a diesel mechanic for Tri State Transit City Bus Line for many years.

Surviving him are his children: Karen Williams, and her husband Richard, of Follansbee, and a son John Godwin, and his wife Sheila, of East Liverpool. There are 5 grandchildren: Tiffany Helsel (Pastor William), Megan Shaw (Braden), Tyler Williams (Amanda), Lori Godwin (fiance Josh Wilson) and Amy Godwin (companion Luke O’Rourke. There are 12 great-grandchildren surviving.

Bob is also survived by a sister, Wanda Six, and her husband Wayne, of Newell, and a brother Raymond Godwin of Lisbon.

He was preceded by his wife Betty E. Godwin on April 15, 1989, and he was preceded by a granddaughter Tabatha Godwin, as well as a great-granddaughter Savanah Wilson.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Pastor William Helsel will conduct a service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct full military honors. Following the burial friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
