Obituary for Mary B. White (Springer)

MARY B. WHITE, 80

EAST LIVERPOOL – Mary B. Springer White, 80, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 13, 2017 at the home where she and her late husband, Lee, lived for over 55 years and raised seven children together. Her family surrounded her at the time of her death at 2:45 p.m., grieving her loss, but knowing she is now in the presence of her Heavenly Father and other loved ones.

Born in East Liverpool on September 15, 1936, Mary was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Phyllis Lisk Springer, and a step-daughter of Kathryn Springer Donaldson, of East Liverpool, whom Mary loved as a mother.

She was a 1954 graduate of East Liverpool High School, where she met Lee, and they were married on June 26, 1954. Later in her life, Mary became a registered nurse, working primarily for Ohio Valley Home Health, and earned her Associate’s degree in Nursing from Kent State University in 1986. Many former school students fondly remember Mary as a bus driver for East Liverpool City Schools.

A member of Campground Community Church, she had been a Deaconess and played the piano there for many years. She also belonged to the Salvation Army Ladies Home League and the Older Americans.

Her children considered her “the best mom there ever was” – the perfect example of a mother, wife, grandmother, sister, nurse and friend. She made their home a place where everyone felt welcome and loved. Together with Lee, she enjoyed anything having to do with family, especially when it involved music. Lee preceded her in death on December 17, 2015.

Mary is survived by five daughters and two sons: Mary Lee Ludwig and her husband, Lesley, of East Liverpool; Melanie Balser and her husband, John, also of East Liverpool; Michelle Miller and her husband, Jason, of Pittsburgh; Traci Davis and her husband, Bret, of East Liverpool; Billie Jo Smith and her husband, Rob, also of East Liverpool; Mitchell White and his wife, Cheryl, of St. Charles, MO; and Benjamin White and his wife, Candi, of East Liverpool.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and her faithful canine companion, Opie.

In addition to her stepmother, Mary leaves behind a brother, Ben Springer and his wife, Nancy, of East Liverpool; a step-sister, Barbara Myers and her husband, Dale, of Salineville; and a step-brother, John Detchon and his wife, Kim, of Medina.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Yvonne Springer Jiminez.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Tom Adkins of the church will officiate at a service to be held at the funeral home Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the 1st Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool.
