Obituary for Donald R. "Don" Parsons

Donald R. Parsons, 88

CALCUTTA – Donald R. Parsons, of Calcutta, passed away while surrounded by his loved ones Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at his home. He was 88.

Born in Hopewell Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, July 23, 1929, he was a son of the late Jacob and Mary Rebecca Kerns Parsons. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years of service. He had previously worked at J&L Steel for 17 years. He lived most of his life in Western Pennsylvania and moved to East Liverpool in 2007.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. At one time, he was a Cub Scout leader and he was a New Tribes Missionary.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Brown Parsons, on April 2, 2006. The couple married April 2, 1949. He was also preceded in death by six sisters and six brothers.

He is survived by his children: two daughters, Laurel Montgomery (Dan Johnson), of Calcutta, and Cathy Jo Nusser (David), of Georgetown; and two sons, Donald G. Parsons (Sandy), of Clinton, and Fred A. Parsons (Susan) of Mississippi.

There are nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit Thursday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Pastor Dr. Bill Wagoner of the church will conduct a funeral service Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Burial will be at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester, Pennsylvania.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.
