Obituary for David Anthony Celio

Former area resident David Anthony Celio, 76, passed away Monday afternoon, December 11, 2017 at his home in Upper St. Clair, following a brief illness.

Dave was born in Pittsburgh on July 11, 1941, a son of the late Goldie Ferguson Celio. He attended St. Aloysius School as a young boy, and was a 1959 graduate of East Liverpool High School. He started working as a bagger at the local Thorofare store while still in high school, and later managed several stores in the western PA area. Always one who enjoyed being busy, he also owned and operated Automatic Vending Services in Carnegie.

For many years, Dave served with the Army National Guard and always kept active and youthful. He especially loved travelling, fishing, boating on the river, and riding his Can-Am Spyder with his best girl, Karen Pihakis. He was most proud of his family – especially his two beloved grandsons, Sean and Scott, who were the light of his life. His wide smile lit up the room, and his keen sense of humor and positive attitude will never be forgotten.

In addition to his loving friend, Karen, who survives at home, Dave also leaves behind his daughter, Julie Kreefer and her husband, Jeff, of East Liverpool. His grandsons, Sean Kreefer and his wife, Sarah, and Scott Kreefer and his companion, Courtney Hall, also survive. Also surviving are many friends, along with Karen’s loving family; and by a sister, Dorothy, and a special cousin, Sandra Grooms. Dave was also close to his cousin, Levis, who preceded him in death.

Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Father Peter Haladej of Holy Trinity Parish will be the celebrant at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Aloysius Church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. Following the service, friends and family will gather at one of Dave’s favorite spots, Casa de Emanuel’s, for a continued time of fellowship.

Those wishing to do so may make monetary gifts in Dave’s name to Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church, 512 Monroe Street, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.
