Obituary for Betty Jane Ayers (Roberts)

Early Monday morning, March 19, 2018, Betty Jane Roberts Ayers, passed away at Valley Oaks Care Center, following a lengthy illness. Betty, who had resided in Wellsville with her daughter in recent years, was 82.

A daughter of the late Floyd R. and Sara M. Penney Roberts, she was born on May 14, 1935 in Pittsburgh.

On August 2, 1952, she married Harry Roy Ayers, Jr. and moved to this area when he took a job with Mobil Oil. She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. Harry preceded her in death on November 12, 2008.

At one time, she was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Judith A. “Judy” Hughes, with whom Betty had lived; Betty “Janie” Blankenship of East Liverpool; and Diane Board and her husband, Kenny, also of Wellsville, along with one son, David Russell Ayers and his wife, Dolly, of Imperial, PA. In addition, she is survived by two nephews whom she helped raise, Charles W. Ayers Jr. and his wife, Lynne, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, and Michael R. Ayers and his wife, Karen, of Salem. There are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, H. Roy Ayers, and by three grandchildren: Kenneth Allan Ayers, Lorrie Calhoun, and baby boy McCune, as well as a brother, F. Russell Roberts, Jr.

Friends may visit with Betty’s family at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Pastor Mark Blakeley of Wellsville First Christian Church will officiate at services to be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center, where lunch will be served.
