Obituary for Betty Lou Hyder (Kaufman)

Columbus, Ohio- Betty Lou Kaufman Hyder, 88, formerly of Windsor Drive, East Liverpool, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 7:10 a.m. at the Mother Angelina McCrory Manor in Columbus, Ohio following a brief illness. She had spent the last eleven years living with her daughter in Pickerington, Ohio. Prior to that, she was a proud East Liverpool resident.

Born April 11, 1929 in East Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Harold Charles and Helen Dunn Kaufman. On September 21, 1950, she married Lee S. Hyder (who preceded her in death on October 14, 1986). A homemaker who claimed that her most significant life accomplishment was raising her three children. She loved to cook and bake for her family. Prior to their births, she had worked as a phone operator with the Ohio Bell Company.

A member of the 1st United Methodist Church in East Liverpool, she belonged to the Rebekah-Joy Class, The United Methodist Women, Esther Bible Club, and the Weslyn Crusaders Sunday School Class. A member of the Eastern Star Crystal Chapter #18, the Social Order of the Beauceants, and the Pilgrim Commandry Wives & Widows. She was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1947 and was a Charter Member of its Alumni Association.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Watt and her husband, James of Pickerington, Ohio. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Watt of Washington Court House, Ohio, Laran Lee Hyder McGarr of Boston, Massachusetts, and Gareth Lee Hyder of East Liverpool, Ohio. In addition, she is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lynn Hyder of East Liverpool, Ohio.

She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Larry Joe Hyder in 2005 and Frederick Lee Hyder in 2009; and by her sister, Margaret Ann Smith.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Pastor Norm Eckert of the Beechwood Free Methodist Church will conduct a service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
