Obituary for Jean Fitch

EAST LIVERPOOL – Arla Jean Shaw Fitch, 75, of Seventh Avenue, LaCroft passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 at 10:22 p.m. at the Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman, Ohio following a brief illness.

Jean was born in East Liverpool on January 15, 1946, a daughter of the late Kenneth A. and Marguerite Snider Shaw. She spent her childhood in Fredericktown and was baptized at the Fredericktown Christian Church at the age of 12. A 1964 graduate of Beaver Local High School, she moved to the “city” of East Liverpool just prior to her marriage to Robert E. Fitch, on November 27, 1965.

For many years, Jean worked at the Jenny Shop in Steubenville, Ohio and later became the manager of the East Liverpool location. She also managed the D & K Shop in the city before driving school bus for East Liverpool City Schools from 1980 until her retirement in 1997. An avid bowler, she belonged to the Tri-State Belles Bowling League at one time, and also loved researching her family’s genealogy. But above all, her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.

Together, she and her husband, Bob, shared nearly 46 years of marriage prior to his death on November 6, 2011, and they proudly raised two sons who survive, Robert E. “Rob” Fitch, Jr., and his wife, Alisa, of East Liverpool, and William C. Fitch and his wife, Shelby, of Austintown, Ohio. There are two beloved grandchildren, Chasity Fitch and Ethan Fitch.

One sister survives, Jackie Shafer and her husband, Larry, of East Liverpool, as well as sister and brother-in-law, Colleen Shaw and Joe Hampson, in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss Jean’s spunk and positive attitude.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Glenda Hampson and her brother, George Shaw.

Friends may visit the family at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Norman Eckert of the Beechwood Free Methodist Church officiating.

Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
