Obituary for Barbara Cunningham Custer

Barbara Custer, 71

EAST LIVERPOOL – Barbara Cunningham Custer, of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the home of her son following a lengthy illness. She was 71.

Born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, February 28, 1949, she was a daughter of the late George and Ruth Ann Cain Gaines. A resident of this area all her life, she was an in-home health care worker at one time. She earned her STNA from the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Cunningham, as well as her second husband, Clyde Custer.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Cunningham and her companion, Vern, of Hanoverton, and Judy Berkheimer and her husband, Ed, of Wellsville, and two sons, Steve Cunningham and his companion, Trisha, of East Liverpool, and Jerry Cunningham, Sr. and his wife, Marcia, of Wellsville. There are 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three sisters, Florence Smith of East Liverpool, Cathy Lovett of Salineville, and Violet Gaines of Smithfield, West Virginia. She will also be sadly missed by her dog Precious.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce Farnsworth, three sisters, Connie James, Lona Martin and Cindy Cowdery, and three brothers, Dean, Joe and George Gaines.

Pastor Donny Lytle will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home where friends may visit two hours prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are required.
