Obituary for Bennie R. Adkins

BENNIE R. ADKINS, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL – Bennie R. Adkins, 85, of Globe Street, passed away suddenly at 4:20 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Mr. Adkins, born in Hager, WV, had been a longtime East Liverpool resident.

A son of the late Warren and Lola Honaker Adkins, he was born on July 27, 1929. From 1948 to 1950, he served with the Marine Reserves. Following his military duty, he began work at the former Crucible Steel Corporation, retiring in 1982 after 32 years.

He was a member of the Campground Community Church, and enjoyed playing the guitar.

On January 14, 1950, he married his wife, Daisy Mae Johnson Adkins, and together they raised their family in this area. She survives him at home.

Mr. Adkins’ children survive as well: Linda Adkins of Falling Waters, WV; Vickie Nelson and her husband, Gary, of New Cumberland, WV; Russell Lee Adkins and his wife, Sandy, of Calcutta; and Rick Adkins and his wife, Kelly, also of Calcutta.

There are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as four sisters: Thelma Adkins of East Liverpool, Sarah Cooper of Hager, WV, Sue Albert of Alliance, and Alice Diann Cummings of St. Albans, WV.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Adkins is preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Friends may visit the family at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Services will take place at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Tom Adkins of the church officiating. Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park, after which time, family and friends will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
