Obituary for Bettie Rae Talkington (Dye)

BETTIE R. TALKINGTON, 91

ASHLAND, OHIO – Bettie Rae (Dye) Talkington, 91, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away from Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Kingston of Ashland.

She was a daughter of the late Ray and Lelia Belle (Morgan) Dye, born in Rinehart, West Virginia on May 19, 1925. She was a 1942 graduate of Lumberport (WV) High School.

On June 22, 1946, she married Leslie E. Talkington, and moved to East Liverpool on her wedding day. A loving and dedicated homemaker, wife and proud mother of three children, she loved to sew, knit, crochet and do other crafts. She liked square dancing, camping, bowling, playing shuffle board, and she also played women’s volleyball until age 64. At one time, she was a cutthroat Canasta player, and also loved to play Cribbage. She liked walking on the beach, picking up shells and sharks’ teeth. Her family considered her to be the best biscuit maker ever.

She and Les loved wintering together in Arcadia, Florida, which she continued to do even after his death on June 5, 1997.

Bettie was a Protestant by faith.

Surviving is her daughter, Connie L. Claypool and her husband, Greg, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Also surviving are her two sons, Alvin L. Talkington and his wife, Pamela, of East Liverpool, and Douglas R. Talkington and his wife, Kathy, of Ontario, Ohio.

There are seven beloved grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren surviving. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bettie was preceded in death by a brother, William Dye, and by a sister, Fern Rogers.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m.

Private burial services will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
