Obituary

Obituary for Bonnie L. Hoppel

BONNIE L. ADKINS HOPPEL, 79

EAST LIVERPOOL – Bonnie L. Adkins Hoppel, of Calcutta Smith Ferry Road, Calcutta, passed away Tuesday morning, August 4, 2020 at her home while surrounded by her family. She was 79.

The only daughter of the late Hallie C. Adkins and Mabel V. Adkins, Bonnie was born in Midkiff, West Virginia, on December 23, 1940. The family came to East Liverpool when Bonnie was five, and she had made this area her home ever since.

A 1958 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Bonnie began work in the office at the former Smith & Phillips Furniture Company, and later was associated with Metropolitan Insurance. Following her marriage to David L. Hoppel on April 17, 1960, she devoted her life to caring for their family. Quiet and selfless, she was the “glue” that held everyone together, working tirelessly on any project or event that involved her family and friends, whether it was a church supper, a Hoppel Wrestling Tournament, or any other sporting event – especially when it had to do with Beaver Local.

A member of Northside Community Church and the Joy Sunday School class, Bonnie also belonged to the East Liverpool – Calcutta Area Garden Club and loved the outdoors. Her faith was extremely important to her, and her love of God was evident in the compassion and care she showed to everyone she encountered.

In addition to her husband, Dave, who survives at home, Bonnie also leaves behind her four children: daughter, Michelle Roberts of Calcutta; Randy L. Hoppel and his wife, Connie, of West Point; Mark D. Hoppel and his wife, Trudy, of Calcutta; and John W. Hoppel and his wife, Julie, of Rogers.

Bonnie took great joy in her grandchildren: Jared Hoppel, Grant Hoppel, Chelsea Whitehouse, Laini Roberts, Kaydi Hoppel, Jacob Hoppel, Jace Hoppel, Sabina Hoppel, and Zemfira Hoppel; as well as her great-grandchildren: Cameron and Lillian.

She is also survived by two brothers, Larry Adkins and his wife, Terry, of Calcutta, and Lyle Adkins and his wife, Cassie, also of Wellsville, as well as legions of friends who will miss her positive outlook and her sweet smile.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Adkins, as well as an infant grandchild and infant great-grandchild, Nora Hoppel.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m. Pastor Larry Rose will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Community Church. Masks and social distancing is required.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Old Hoppel Farm for continued fellowship and remembrance.
