Obituary for Bruce E Mays

Services will be held Monday morning for lifetime area resident Bruce E. Mays, who passed away surrounded by his family at 1:25 p.m. Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2016 at Heritage Valley in Beaver. He was 81.

A son of the late Everett E. and Margaret Williams Mays, he was born at home in East Liverpool on November 30, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and soon thereafter, he began a lifelong construction career. Over the years, he had built many area homes and commercial buildings, primarily as owner of Bruce Mays Construction. In 2001, following the death of his brother, Mike, he again entered the field with his nephews, Mark and David Mays, and appreciated the chance to work with them.

Bruce was a member of the Riddle Lodge #315 F&AM. He and his wife, Verna, enjoyed travelling in search of old railroads and beautiful scenery – until recent years when they stayed closer to home due to Verna’s illness. She survives him at home.

Bruce also leaves behind two sons, Bruce Mays and his wife, Denise; Greg Mays and his companion, Amy; and a step-daughter, Cheryl Hinton, all of East Liverpool. A daughter, Melanie Bibbee Guy, preceded him in death.

There are five grandchildren as well as two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. One grandson, Jerry Bibbee, and a great-grandson, Brice Bibbee, passed away in 2015.

One brother survives: Marvin R. “Cork” Mays and his wife, Nancy, of Lisbon. Two other brothers preceded him in death: Carl E. Mays and Michael E. Mays.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Pastor Randy Clark of Union Ridge Baptist Church will officiate at services to be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Monday, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. A Masonic service will take place at 3:30 p.m.

Bruce will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
