Obituary for Charlene L. Garner (Lanning)

Charlene Garner, 77

MASON, OHIO – Charlene Garner, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away suddenly Friday, November 1, 2019 at her home in Mason, Ohio following a brief illness. She was 77.

Born in East Liverpool, November 15, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Norman V. and Alice Pauline Pickens Lanning. A resident of this area most of her life, she was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1959 and later graduated from Robert Morris School in 1961. A member of the First Baptist Church in East Liverpool, she sang in the choir and later was an organist for the church. For many years she worked as a secretary alongside of her husband at the former Family Apothecary Pharmacy. Previously, she had worked at the HJ Heinz Company and the Tri-State Credit Bureau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Garner, Sr., whom she married August 7, 1964. She was also preceded in death by both her parents and a brother, Norman Lanning Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Heather G. Carter and her husband, Mark, of West Chester, Ohio, and her son, Robert D. Garner, Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Wellsville. There are seven grandchildren: Zachary Smith, Tyler Smith, Eric Carter, Nicholas Carter, Justin Garner, Kylee Garner, Jared Garner and Madeline Garner.


Pastor Mark Blakeley will conduct a funeral service at 12 o’clock noon Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit two hours prior to the service Wednesday.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
