Obituary for Charles McKinnon

CALCUTTA – Calcutta resident Charles Lewis McKinnon, age 65, passed at his home early Thursday evening with his wife by his side, December 17, 2015.

Born in East Liverpool on December 23, 1949, he was a son of the late Harry L. and Bernice Wolfe Carter McKinnon. He had worked for the Hall China Company for over 30 years, retiring in 2005 as plant superintendent.

Chuck was a 1967 graduate of East Liverpool High School and had attended Kent State and Youngstown State Universities. He had served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a past Exhaulted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #258 in East Liverpool.

Chuck enjoyed fishing and camping at Pymatuning Lake and family vacations at the Outer Banks and Peek’n Peak Ski Resort.

Surviving him at home is his wife, Deborah Gregg McKinnon, whom he married on December 28, 1968. As well as two daughters, Taffi Jo Voorhees, and her husband Greg, of Negley, and Amanda Elizabeth Louk, and her husband James II, of Rogers.

There are 6 precious grandchildren who meant the world to Chuck: Lucas James and Samantha Jo Voorhees; Darien Lewis, Landen James and Keegen “Charles” Louk and Devyn McKinnon. Also missing him is his faithful puppy Hope.

Also surviving is his sister, Pamela Six, and her husband Thurman, of East Liverpool, and three brothers, Michael McKinnon, of East Liverpool, Mark McKinnon, and his wife Danielle, of East Liverpool, and David McKinnon, and his wife Sherry, of Hamlin, WV.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a sister, Gloria Jean Carter Sprout.

Friends may visit on Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and an Elks Lodge service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Terry Berry, the former pastor of the Calcutta Nazarene Church.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. After which family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
